New backend for the CRC806-Database metadata management

The CRC806-Database will from now on manage the metadata of its datasets, and other resources like literature and links, using the open source data management platform CKAN.
Daniel Kürner successfully implemented, as part of his diploma thesis, the integration of CKAN as the backend for the metadata management of the CRC806-Database.
Due to the use of CKAN we are now able to provide a lot of new functionality like
- faceted search,
- full text search in all metadata elements,
- spatial search and,
- keyword tagging of datasets.
But we also profit from the ongoing development of CKAN which is backed by the Open Knowledge Foundation, to ensure its future progress. This will guarantee that the CRC806-Database is able to provide state of the art metadata management in the future.
